“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working directly with Annie Knapp for quite some time, and I can confidently say she has a true gift when it comes to caring for people and animals. Annie is responsible, timely, and deeply compassionate. She has extensive experience raising and caring for livestock, including her beautiful goats, which she has nurtured with incredible attention and pride. Her animals are healthy, well-socialized, and clearly loved. Annie approaches animal care with a level of dedication and respect that’s hard to come by. She’s knowledgeable, attentive to detail, and always puts the wellbeing of her animals first. Annie’s natural connection with animals, combined with her reliability and work ethic, makes her someone I trust wholeheartedly. Annie has watched my one-year-old son, Saxton, countless times, and I have complete trust in her every single time. She’s patient, nurturing, and always so engaged with him. Annie gives 100% regardless of the situation. Anyone who entrusts their animals to Annie can feel confident they’re in the best possible hands. She’s an absolute gem!”

“Annie is outstanding with house care, barn care, pets and livestock. She is very responsible and level headed and would recognize an emergent situation should one arise while you are away. She’d be able to clearly communicate with your vet or plumber equally well. If your pet requires meds, she’d be comfortable dispensing medications with care.”

I’ve known Annie for many years, and one of the first things that stood out to me was her genuine love for animals. She’s always been dedicated to her 4H animals, putting in countless hours to ensure they were cared for, trained, and loved. Whether she was preparing them for upcoming shows or simply sitting in the grass so they could enjoy some fresh greens, Annie’s commitment and compassion always shone through.

While I spent winters in Arizona, Annie cared for my brood mares, making sure they were fed and grained daily. I never had to worry for a second — I knew they were in the best hands. Annie is reliable, responsible, and truly passionate about animal care. I can’t recommend her enough for anyone looking for a trustworthy and loving pet sitter.

Hi! I’m Annie -

Raised in the wide-open country of Northwestern Wyoming, I’ve spent my life surrounded by animals, hard work, and the kind of values you only learn from ranch life. From bottle-feeding goats to brushing down horses, caring for animals has always been second nature. I’ve been active in 4H, raised livestock, and spent years as the trusted sitter for dogs, cats, and critters of all kinds across our community.

But Heart of the West Animal Care isn’t just about experience—it’s about passion. I was raised by entrepreneurs and always knew I’d build something of my own. Now, fresh out of high school, I’m turning that dream into reality. I’m fully insured, deeply committed, and proud to offer in-home care that’s reliable, respectful, and rooted in love for every animal I meet. Whether it’s feeding, exercising, medicating, or overnight stays, I treat your animals like family—because that’s how I was raised.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Because this is a business and based on my time and availability and I have to work with different schedules, I do have a sort of cancelation fee. Two weeks out - None. One week out - ¼ of your total fee. Three days out - ½ of your total fee. 48 hours or under - No refund, payment due in full.

  • No problem. We will discuss your vet of choice and what should happen in case of an emergency at our initial meet and greet before your trip. I do have the resources to get your animal to a vet if they would need one. I am able to do some first aide and am versed in emergencies and how to triage them. Things out of my abilities will be immediately taken to a Vet.

  • I try to keep things to here in the Big Horn Basin/Northwestern Wyoming area. Cody (including Northfork and Southfork), Powell, Wapiti, Greybull, Meetetsee, and all of the rural and small communities within that area! I’m willing to visit about options or charges, if you are outside of this area.

  • This is a great question - as we know, NW Wyoming has a mind of its own when it comes to the weather! No fear. I’m confident that I will be able to get to your friends, even if I have to wait just a bit to get some snow cleared. I have access to a truck, and can be very reliable. Now, as far as snow removal at your location - I won’t be responsible for that (unless your friend is in danger because of it) and will need you to make arrangements to keep your driveways or barn lots as accessible as possible.

  • Putting in a request for services is easy. Just fill out this form here, and I’ll be in contact with you shortly. Because I’m the only employee in my business at this time, I have to make sure that your dates and needs line up with my availability - before just approving things online.

  • I sure do - in fact, that’s vitally important to me and my business. After I receive your request form, I will be in touch ASAP, where you and I will set up a meet and greet at your location (or place where I will be caring for your friends) and we will go over things like feeding, emergencies, any medications, how they prefer to be loved and cared for, and any other details I need or questions you have.

  • Yes, absolutely! Your final invoice will be sent after you return home anyway, so adding time (as long as my availability allows) is no problem at all.

  • Absolutely! I love taking cute pictures of ANY animal - and updates and communication is the heart of my business. I want you to feel comfortable that your friend is in the best possible hands.
